Falling Back

I love fall. It's my favorite time of year. The cooler days, the colorful leaves, the cats growing soft and fat and fluffy in preparation for winter. Bringing in the last of the garden produce, and tucking everything in for the winter. Pumpkins and apples and bonfires.

Speaking of bonfires, here are a few snapshots from our bonfire a couple weeks ago, complete with hotdog and marshmallow roasting and a hymn sing around the fire. As you can see, the guys devised some pretty ingenious ways to cook hot dogs while dealing with the smoke and heat!

Good food and good fellowship.

Everyone had a pleasant evening. Even Socks the cat was happy to snuggle up in Miles' stroller and listen to the singing.

There is one thing about fall that I'm not crazy about, and it's happening tonight. It's time to "fall back" again. The end of Daylight Savings Time. While this is great in theory - an extra hour of sleep - in practice it seems to lose something. Especially when you have young children. Miles has been trying to drop his second nap lately, and since Kaylee hasn't napped consistently for over a year, both kids have been ready for bed at around 7:30 PM the past month or so. Which is great, because I can get things done after they are in bed. The downside is that they're both wide awake at 6:00 AM. And they have no idea that tomorrow morning, it will be 5:00 AM. I have a feeling we'll all be needing naps tomorrow afternoon!
